Visual Thinking and Decision-Making Workshops
The Lineage of Mind Mapping
The Visual Thinking / Decision-Making Workshop brings decision-making to life by combining proven frameworks with powerful visual tools like mind mapping. Designed for K-12 educators, students, corporate and industry leaders, the workshop transforms abstract thinking into something visible, structured, and actionable.
The Map, The Mix, & The Masters
Every strategic call your team makes is a bet on the future.
The cost of a bad decision isn't just the outcome. It's the wasted budget, the hire you shouldn't have made, the deal you should have walked away from. Most leaders make decisions, in large part, on their instincts.
The 3 Ms: Three ways of thinking, one better decision.
I help leaders and teams decide better, with real confidence, using The 3 Ms — a framework built from visual thinking, decision neuroscience, and the hard-won wisdom of professional decision-makers, including poker players, mountain guides, and magicians. Each workshop session weaves The 3 Ms together into a single, practical way of approaching any high-stakes decision.

Every Decision is a Bet - Learn to Make Better Ones
The Map: Turn overwhelming complexity into a clear picture.
Complex, high-stakes decisions rarely fail for lack of information — they fail because that information is a tangled mess nobody can act on. Using a visual map (thinking tool), I show teams how to take a reorganization, a market entry, or a make-or-break negotiation and turn it into a picture everyone in the room can grasp and reason about together.
1.
The Mix: Know which cognitive system is making the decision.
Your brain runs on two systems: a fast, automatic one that handles most of your day, and a slower, deliberate one built for genuinely hard problems. Most bad business decisions happen when the fast system is running a call that instead deserved the slow one. I teach leaders to catch that switch in real time — in themselves and in the room — so high-stakes decisions are made with the right thinking and the right cognitive system.
2.
The Masters: Decision-making advice from people who can't afford to be wrong.
Some of the sharpest decision-making wisdom comes from outside the Board Room, for example, from professional poker players who've built careers on separating a good decision from a good outcome, from mountain guides who manage irreversible risk for a living, and from magicians who understand exactly how attention and certainty get manipulated. I don't just cite that last one — I demonstrate it live, showing you and your team in real time how your certainty can get hijacked.

Why Stuart Zola?
The science and the stage, from the same person.
I bring a rare combination to this topic: a PhD neuroscientist grounded in Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related dementias; certified to teach visual mapping using several platforms (The Map); how the brain actually makes decisions, using both the fast and slow systems (The Mix); extensive senior academic and research leadership; Founder/Co-Founder of 3 companies. I'm also an award-winning close-up card magician (The Masters). This is where entertainment and science in the workshop genuinely intersect. Every workshop is built to be as rigorous as a research seminar and as fun as a magic show. A deck of cards does something most decision-making tools cannot easily do: It turns invisible cognitive and social processes into a shared, readily available memorable guide.
Formats: Built to fit your event.
Every session is customized to your environment’s actual decision points, not generic examples.
Keynote (60 min) — Ideal for conferences, leadership off-sites, and all-hands events. The full arc of The 3 Ms, told through story, science, and live demonstration.
Team Workshop (half day, 3 hrs) — Interactive sessions where your team applies the 3 Ms framework to a real decision they're facing right now, not a hypothetical.
Virtual Option — Available by live video for distributed teams. I'll be candid: the energy and interaction of a live room is where this material lands hardest. See my website for attendee comments and videos.
